Details of task: Write an academic essay demonstrating application of academic writing techniques and principles introduced through the unit topics 1-8. Choose from one of the following questions:
Question 1
In addition to presenting research and evidence, should academic writing try to persuade the reader? In your answer, you should discuss the role of stance and other critical writing features. To support your argument, you must provide examples of how academic style varies across the disciplines.
Question 2
What is the relationship between metacommentary and disciplinary knowledge in academic writing? In addition to your theoretical analysis, you should analyse specific uses of metacommentary in research journal articles across at least two disciplines.
