The book Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep presents the reader with a post-apocalyptic future, taking place in a fallout-ridden Earth. In this world, the people of Earth are continuously encouraged to emigrate offworld to begin a new life. As a way to coerce migration, a free android is offered to anyone willing to leave. These androids are so advanced but devoid of life that they are banned on Earth. It is the job of government sanctioned bounty hunters to kill these androids. However, the question of whether or not an android is a living being is constantly being asked throughout the novel. The themes of life, empathy, and even equality for the androids are consistently present in the text.
