Scenario
Fair-Childs are a medium-sized children’s school uniform manufacturer and at Fair-Childs, garments are made only when it is believed that they are required. Background information:
Fair-Childs operate in yearly cycles. Before the start of the new academic year, new garments are designed and samples are made. The garments are priced and then orders are solicited from shops. Materials for making the garments are ordered on the basis of sales forecasts, a production schedule is drawn up, and production is monitored for quality and punctuality. Other information, which affects the production of garments, is to do with the garment design, the availability of materials, and delivery dates.
Information relevant to the database design:
Parts of uniforms are stored in several warehouses around the UK and each warehouse can store more than one type of product. Each of the products is allocated a section for storage in the relevant warehouse. Garments are dispatched from these warehouses to the customers and remittances are banked. Each warehouse can store only 2 separate items (parts of school uniforms) and the manager needs to oversee the delivery of whole uniforms to shops who order them as such.
You are the company’s stock manager, who needs to be informed continually about the stock levels in the warehouses, so that you can inform customers about levels of stock and order additional stock from appropriate suppliers. Your task is to:
1. Design and create a basic database which will inform the stock manager.
The database is called Fair-Childs Uniforms which will have at least three tables:
a. Table Warehouse  table of all warehouses and their location. This table will have the following fields:
i. Warehouse code ii. Warehouse name
iii. Location (address in as many fields as you see appropriate)
iv. Telephone number
v. Warehouse manager
b. Table Garment – a table of types of garments which form a school uniform. This table will have the following fields:
i. Garment code
ii. Garment description, including colour (e.g. blazer blue in as many field as you consider appropriate)
iii. Garment size (e.g.5-7, 7-9, or 6,8,10¦)
iv. Garment price
v. Warehouse in which stored
vi. Section of the warehouse in which it is stored vii. Supplier code
c. Table Storage Details a table of data about storage and amounts.
This table will have the following fields:
i. Warehouse Code ii. Section code
iii. Section description (which section of the warehouse, e.g. 1st
floor left)
iv. Garment code
v. Amount of garments currently stored

  1. Query the database and write reports to your superiors. For the deadline you are required by your manager to do the following:
    a. Find out what stock (section and quantity) is stored in London and in
Glasgow warehouses (or any other 2 warehouses of your choosing).
    b. Find out how many grey uniforms (trousers, blazers, shirts, ties, hats, V- neck sweaters and socks) are there and in which warehouse.
    c. Create an input form for updating the table Garment
    d. Create a report which will inform the manager about the current total stock situation in each individual warehouse.
