FORUMWeek 13 Discussion: Practical/Clinical IssueDashboardMy coursesNU-668-03-23PCFAWeek 13: Quality Improvement/Patient Safety – SWOT Analysis Part 1Week 13 Discussion: Practical/Clinical IssueCompletion requirementsTo do:Make forum posts: 2Value: 100 pointsDue: In an effort to facilitate scholarly discourse, create your initial post by Day 3, and reply to two of your classmates by Day 7.Grading Category: DiscussionsInitial PostAfter reviewing the 2012 QSEN Graduate Competencies (PDF), identify a quality/safety issue that you have seen in your practice or clinical setting.Explain to your classmates the issue you have identified and the reasons why it is an issue. Include the potential negative outcomes that can arise if the issue is not resolved. As you create your post, review the knowledge, skills, and attitudes of the relevant competency regarding the quality/safety issue you have identified.Reply PostsUsing the SWOT Analysis Resource, review two classmates’ posts.Identify two items from each of the four components (S, W, O, T) that are relevant to the problem your classmate identified. Explain your reasoning for each.To reply to the example in the initial post, you could select advantages of the proposition and financial reserves from the Strengths quadrant. Elaborate on the advantages of following the recommendations—for example, following professional standards of equal care, decreasing cost by not ordering unnecessary diagnostic tests, and increasing revenue from shorter visit times.Items you might identify from the Weakness quadrant could include processes and systems, and morale commitment and leadership. These items are weaknesses because of the need to train providers on national recommendations and to create a system within the EMR to track PAP smears. You should then choose two items from both the Opportunities quadrant and the Threats quadrant and include them in your reply post. Please refer to the Grading Rubric for details on how this activity will be graded. The grading for the number of reply posts is based on individual Discussion Board instructions. If the rubric indicates a different number for reply posts, you will not be graded down, as long as you have followed the reply post instructions. For the assignment to be considered complete, make sure that you address all prompts in your initial post by Day 3 and reply to at least two classmates by Day 7. This is my peer’s postRe: Week 13 Discussion: Practical/Clinical Issueby Tiffany Landry – Monday, 20 November 2023, 3:04 PMThis discussion post will serve to address the QSEN competency of teamwork and collaboration. Specifically, how it relates to my experience at clinicals. Teamwork has been identified by QSEN as part of a set of essential competencies to be provided in nursing education across the US (Watanabe, et al., 2021). For example, understanding the roles and scope of practice of each interprofessional team member, in order to work effectively to provide the highest level of care possible. This is an occurrence I have witnessed in many places including my own place of work.Poor knowledge of roles and scopes within the team can create a discord between coworkers and an imbalanced amount of work. In the clinical setting I currently attend, there are sometimes concerns regarding who is responsible for certain office roles. For example, the administrative staff or nurses are expected to complete prior authorizations but sometimes are not able to fully understand the complexities of the prompted questions and thus these tasks are reverted back to the provider to complete. As a result, time constraints become an issue and interfere with provider face to visits. For example, appointment times can run behind when there is interference with teamwork. The overall nature of a team is varied and complex and when effective within the workplace can reduced time and costs of hospitalization (Babiker, et al., 2014). It is imperative to communicate effectively and complete tasks within our scope of practice. In fact, some studies suggest that conflict, specifically between coworkers in a healthcare setting, creates a source of learning and innovation (Eichbaum et al., 2018). I would have to agree that there are many gaps in healthcare that we still aim to address but if truth be told create opportunities to learn from.ReferencesBabiker, A., El Husseini, M., Al Nemri, A., Al Frayh, A., Al Juryyan, N., Faki, M.
