2. Informed consent is central to the practitioner-patient relationship in Australia. It grew out of the developments of law in England. As such, it is possible that there is a cultural bias built into the requirement to obtain informed consent. Discuss the existence, or not, of such a bias.
If you choose this question, your essay must do the following:
Outline the law of consent as it applies to health care practitioners in Australia. Your analysis must include and integrate discussion of the cases we have considered in the class on consent (approximately 50% of your words);
Analyse the extent to which the Australian law of consent may have reflect a degree of cultural bias. This may be done through a comparison with the law of consent from another jurisdiction that does not have the same requirements OR it may be done through an analysis of material that discusses the law of consent in terms of a cultural bias (approximately 40% of your words); and
You will also need to include an introductory paragraph and a conclusion in your essay (approximately 10% of your words)
